Climate Change Adaptation

Adaptation

Asserbo Consulting S.A. has experience with vulnerability to natural climate variability or human-induced climate change. Exposure to climate-related risks has increased dramatically in recent decades, and we consider integrating this aspect as a "must" in any of our development projects. At present, Asserbo Consulting SA focuses on four (4) areas of adaptation to climate change:

  1. Climate change affects coastal areas in several ways. Coasts are very sensitive to rising sea levels, changes in the frequency and intensity of storms, increased rainfall and warmer ocean temperatures.
  2. Climate affects ecosystems. Changes in climate can force species to migrate to higher latitudes or higher elevations where temperatures are more conducive to their survival. Similarly, as sea levels rise, saltwater intrusion into a freshwater system can force some keystone species to relocate or die, which can have an adverse effect all the way down the food chain.
  3. Forests are vulnerable to the increased frequency of wildfires and air pollution.
  4. Conveyor systems are designed to withstand typical climates. Transportation engineers usually refer to historical records of climate, extreme weather events, especially in the design of transportation systems. However, due to climate change, historical weather conditions are no longer a reliable indicator of future impacts.

Biodiversity Rapid Assessment

Biodiversity Rapid Assessment

Asserbo Consulting SA has experience in planning and conducting rapid assessments of biodiversity and we are linked with some of the most qualified Biodiversity experts in the Region to offer better coverage of all groups of plants and animals. In addition, we are working in cooperation with leading natural history museums around the world to ensure that our results are transparent and well documented.
"Rapid assessment of biodiversity" is a rapid method of gathering information on the species present in a given area. It differs from other biodiversity assessment methods in that it is done quickly, often with the aim of providing information to guide conservation actions. Conservation decision-making is usually done in a time frame that is much more urgent than many scientific studies and therefore the data needed to inform these decisions should be available as soon as possible. Our services within Rapid Biodiversity Assessment are also used to document baseline studies included in Management Plans for environmental assessments and for the development of local ecotourism projects.
